Our Internship Opportunities:
Qualifications: Students must be undergraduate students in their senior year or
graduate students. Students are selected through a competitive
process including academic accomplishment, an interview and writing
sample. No previous political experience is required, but it is
preferred.
POS accepts interns throughout the year and, specifically for a
modified period in the fall (August - December) of any even numbered
year. We can accept only full-time interns.
Interested applicants should have a genuine interest in survey
research and strong mathematical skills. We are looking for team
players who can work as well on their own as with a group. Intern
duties are varied but can include anything from answering the phones
to accompanying partners giving presentations. Particularly skilled
individuals may even be given the opportunity to complete small
survey research projects under supervision.
We recognize that each intern is here to learn and as such they are
treated as a member of our staff. Interns are provided with the
training and background necessary to be an integral part of the
company. We provide a training period after which interns receive
only a minimum amount of central supervision. This is an excellent
opportunity for a mature student to learn about survey research in a
hands on environment.
Interns are primarily responsible for:
- Assisting Research Assistants and Project Directors to complete
charts and presentations (this requires training in both Harvard
Graphics and PowerPoint which we provide)
- Ongoing organization and filing in our library and survey storage
areas. We have a vast library system of past survey projects, we
expect interns to become familiar with this area in the event new
projects require information from prior surveys.
- Providing on-line research, including the Internet, Federal
Election Commission, Roper Data, Hotline and other survey research
collections. (We provide training in all these areas)
- Various office duties. When necessary we do expect the interns
to pitch in and help out answering phones, stuffing mailings or any
other "team" projects that require assistance.
Benefits:
Our office is conveniently located in Old Town, Alexandria. We
provide paid parking to individuals who drive and Metro/bus pass
reimbursement to those who choose to use public transportation. Full- time
interns receive a minimum stipend of $250.00 per week.
