Jim Burton, Vice President
Jim Burton is a Vice President at Public Opinion Strategies, a leading
national political and public affairs research firm. Since joining
the firm in January 2002, he has worked on more than 800 research projects.
Besides managing research projects, Jim is responsible for the training
of the firms project directors, is the liaison with its phone centers
and other outside vendors.
Jim’s work experience includes some of the most competitive political
races in the country, as well as corporate and non-profit work. In
2006, some of the projects he managed included the research for Congresswoman
Michele Bachmann, one of only two women in the Republican freshman class;
Representative Jon Porter, one of the Democrats’ top targets, multiple
projects for the National Republican Congressional Committee’s independent
expenditure effort; and Senator John Ensign’s re-election campaign. He
has conducted research in 42 states and the District of Columbia, as well
as Puerto Rico, Guam and Iraq. Last year he also managed post election
research for BIPAC (Business and Industry Political Action Committee),
one of the nation’s largest organizations made up of small businesses
who support pro-business candidates.
A partial listing of the political clients for whom he has conducted
research include Senator John Thune, Senator Norm Coleman, Congressman
Rick Renzi, and Governor Mike Rounds.
Jim’s public affairs research includes work on public policy battles
on deregulation, tax reform, tort reform, health care reform, zoning and
land use issues, and pension reform. Some of the organizations
he has worked with include: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, the Catholic
Health Association, Verizon, Tyson Foods, Station Casinos, the Dallas
Cowboys, and BNSF Railway.
Prior to joining Public Opinion Strategies, Jim was the Executive Director
of the Maryland Republican Party. In addition, he worked as a legislative
aide for a Prince George’s County (MD) Council member. Jim
has also worked on or managed campaigns from the state and local level
to the federal level. A graduate of Clemson University, Jim resides with
his wife and daughter in Gambrills, Maryland.
